01    MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE

Predictable weekday care built around stable packs and staffing.

1      How does Citizen Hound’s membership model work?

Citizen Hound’s membership model works much like tuition at a child’s daycare. A family pays a recurring monthly rate to reserve an ongoing place in the program, rather than purchasing a collection of individual walks. That place remains supported whether the dog uses every scheduled day or occasionally stays home because of travel, illness, appointments, or changing household plans. This structure allows Citizen Hound to employ heavily trained professional Pack Leaders on stable schedules, like accredited teachers, maintain vehicles and management support, build consistent packs, plan dependable routes, and assign every dog both a primary and backup Pack Leader with dependable availability. It also gives dogs the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with their handlers and packmates, as well as other Pack Leaders they encounter. Over time, that familiarity helps the team recognize subtle changes in a dog’s health, behavior, energy, mobility, or comfort and provide increasingly individualized care. Membership is Citizen Hound’s core model, but it is not the only model available in professional dog walking. Some providers charge only for individual walks used, offer flexible weekly schedules, or operate primarily through on-demand bookings. Those arrangements may be a better fit for families who need only occasional care or whose schedules change frequently. Citizen Hound’s model is best suited to families who value dependable recurring weekday service, consistent relationships, professional backup coverage, and a reserved place within an established pack. Prospective clients should consider how often they need care, how much flexibility they require, and whether they prefer guaranteed continuity in an off-leash adventure program, or strictly pay-as-needed service even if that is perhaps on leash, when deciding which type of provider is right for them.

2      What is the difference between a 1 Group and 2 Group membership?

A 1 Group membership includes one off-leash group adventure each weekday. A 2 Group membership includes both daily adventure periods—one around midday and another in the afternoon. Neither program guarantees a certain amount of time out of the house, only the hour long play sessions booked, however, generally speaking with transportation included, the 1 Group membership involves about 2-3 hours out of the home, and the 2 Group membership about 5-6 hours. The 2 Group program can be especially useful for dogs that benefit from two substantial periods of activity and engagement, households with longer workdays, and some families near the service-area boundary whose addresses can be incorporated into a two-group route. Families should consult Citizen Hound’s current Rates page for controlling prices and membership terms.

3      Can families choose only two or three fixed days each week?

Citizen Hound’s core membership program is designed around consistent weekday service rather than fixed two- or three-day schedules. This structure helps maintain compatible packs, predictable routes, stable staffing, and reliable backup coverage. Citizen Hound may occasionally accommodate a dog outside the standard membership structure, but these placements are very limited. They generally require a centrally located address, an especially dynamic social fit, flexibility across Pack Leaders or packs, and an understanding that service may not be available every time it is requested. Families needing only occasional care should discuss their circumstances with Citizen Hound rather than assuming a recurring part-time position is available. Especially in situations of ultra flexibility, some households can be accommodated.

4      What happens during the first meeting?

Citizen Hound uses the initial conversation and screening process to learn about the dog's history, routine, health, handling, social behavior, recall, energy, play style, breed-related tendencies, and known concerns. For a pack candidate, trained staff conduct a practical in-field assessment or "screener" and observe the dog's response to handlers, open space, movement, other dogs, and distractions. Management makes the final decision about readiness and any conditions required for enrollment, while explaining the factors behind that professional judgment.

5      How do I book my first dog walk?

Prospective clients should first review Citizen Hound's service options, Rates page, Service Area map, and membership expectations. They can then contact Citizen Hound or submit the intake form with their address and basic information about their dog. The evaluation begins with a phone conversation and, for group candidates, proceeds to an in-person screening walk. After enrollment, management establishes the recurring schedule in the client platform. Existing clients use that platform to manage eligible schedule changes and request available additional or Ad-Hoc Walks. Clients are given instructions on using the platform at enrollment.

02    TIMES & DAILY ROUTINE

Route-based timing designed for dependable group care.

6      When do off-leash adventures take place?

Citizen Hound operates two weekday off-leash adventure periods. The first adventure generally takes place around 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and the second generally takes place around 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. These are adventure times rather than exact home-pickup appointments. Each Pack Leader must also collect and return several dogs along an efficient route, so an individual dog’s total service window extends before and after the group’s time at the park or trail.

7      How do pickup and drop-off windows work?

Pickup and return times are organized around each Pack Leader’s route. A dog may generally be picked up during the hour before its adventure and returned during the hour afterward, and timing is quite consistent day to day, although traffic, client interactions, building access, weather, dog transitions, and route conditions can affect the exact timing. These windows allow Pack Leaders to transport several dogs safely without rushing individual pickups or compromising the group’s adventure time. Citizen Hound communicates significant delays or unusual changes when they occur. The company aims to equitably provide dependable windows and a generally consistent daily rhythm. Families requiring an appointment at a precise time should discuss that need before enrollment, because route-based group care may not be the appropriate service.

8      How long will a dog be away from home?

A dog’s total time away includes pickup, transportation along the Pack Leader’s route, the off-leash adventure, and the return trip home. It is therefore longer than the approximately one-hour adventure itself. The exact duration depends partly on how many dogs the Pack Leader is serving that day, as well as the dog’s position along the route, traffic, access conditions, and other daily logistics, and whether the dog participates in one or both daily groups. Citizen Hound plans routes thoughtfully, but it does not promise an identical number of minutes away from home each day. Generally speaking 1 Group members enjoy 2-3 hours out of the home, and 2 Group members enjoy 5-6 hours out of the home.

9      Does Citizen Hound provide weekend or holiday care?

The recurring pack-walking program operates on weekdays and closes only on the major federal holidays listed in Citizen Hound's annual calendar, available on the FAQ page. Staff members may independently offer weekend, holiday, overnight, or boarding care, but those arrangements are not operated or supervised by Citizen Hound. Management may help established clients identify an available staff member, but families that regularly require weekend care should understand that Citizen Hound's core operation is not built around that need.

03    CHANGES, EXTRAS, AND TIME AWAY

How recurring care adapts when plans change.

10    How are schedule changes or cancellations submitted?

Routine scheduling changes and cancellations should be submitted through Citizen Hound’s client platform. Requests should be entered as early as possible so the team can plan routes, staffing, pack assignments, and backup coverage accurately. Submitting a request does not necessarily mean that a replacement or additional service has been approved. Clients should wait for confirmation when a requested change requires Citizen Hound to add service or alter the dog’s normal assignment. Current notice requirements and controlling cancellation terms are maintained on Citizen Hound’s live Policies page.

11    Can members add an additional walk if busy?

A 1 Group member has access to deeply discounted Additional Walks when Ad Hoc availability appears in the client platform. This can provide occasional extra support without changing the household’s underlying membership. Additional walks depend on actual space within a suitable pack, route capacity, and Pack Leader availability. Their appearance or submission should not be treated as a guarantee until the request has been approved.

12    How do Ad-Hoc Walks work?

Ad-Hoc Walks are individually requested group walks outside a dog’s recurring membership schedule. They are offered only when Citizen Hound has room within an appropriate pack and sufficient route and staffing capacity. Ad-Hoc service is not intended to provide the same certainty as membership. Availability may vary from day to day, and a requested walk may not be possible even when the dog has previously received Ad-Hoc service. Families who depend on consistent weekday care are generally better served by membership.

13    What happens when a family travels or needs less service temporarily?

Clients can cancel unneeded scheduled walks through the client platform in accordance with Citizen Hound’s current policies. Because membership reserves an ongoing position within the company’s staffing, transportation, route, and backup systems, unused walks do not accumulate as credits for later use. For a month in which a family expects to use substantially less service, Citizen Hound may allow the membership to be temporarily switched to Ad-Hoc pricing. The membership is turned off for that calendar month, the walks actually used are billed individually, and the regular membership is scheduled to resume automatically the following month. This arrangement is not retroactive. Clients must notify Citizen Hound of their intention to switch before the first day of the month in which Ad-Hoc pricing will apply. Management must switch to the Ad Hoc plan for the month before it begins. The option also may not be used for consecutive months. This provides members with a degree of flexibility that is uncommon among providers operating similar monthly programs. Citizen Hound frequently hears from new clients that their previous services continued charging the full monthly rate during travel or offered no comparable temporary option. Families anticipating an extended absence or substantial schedule change should contact management as early as possible. Citizen Hound can explain the available options, notice requirements, and any effect on the dog’s continuing place in the program. The live Rates and Policies pages contain the controlling terms.

04    ACCESS, COVERAGE, & COMMUNICATION

The practical systems that keep daily service dependable.

14    Who walks a dog when the primary Pack Leader is absent?

Every member dog has a primary Pack Leader and a dedicated backup Pack Leader, whom we call the "Coverage" Walker. The backup becomes familiar with the dog, its handling needs, home access, and pack placement so that care can continue when the primary Pack Leader is sick, away, or otherwise unavailable. Citizen Hound’s team structure allows management to plan coverage instead of leaving each household to find a substitute independently. Temporary coverage can occasionally require adjustments to pack assignments or group size, but dogs remain within applicable legal limits and under the care of trained Citizen Hound staff. All Citizen Hound staff are trained to know every Citizen Hound dog, so that in any case we are able to provide informed coverage, or supply you with help when you request outside services.

15    How does Citizen Hound access a client’s home?

Clients are not required to be home for entry, and it is not common. Clients provide an approved, reliable method of entry so the Pack Leader can complete pickup and drop-off without depending on someone being home. Keys, access codes, and instructions are managed through Citizen Hound’s protected systems and are shared only as necessary for authorized care and backup coverage. Keys do not contain identifying markers, are kept under physical control and are not left on unsecured surfaces. Clients should promptly report changes to locks, codes, building procedures, alarms, or concierge requirements. Unreliable access can delay the route and may prevent service from being completed.

16    What should I leave out for the Pack Leader?

Clients should provide the agreed upon collar or harness with current identification, any agreed medication or food, towels, and anything specifically requested during onboarding. Citizen Hound uses their own leashes, built in house. Access points should remain clear, and clients should report alarms, construction, visitors, illness, injuries, or other household changes that may affect entry or service. Essential instructions should be kept current in the approved system rather than left only on a temporary note.

17    How far in advance should families begin the enrollment process?

Prospective clients should contact Citizen Hound as early as possible—ideally as soon as they know service may be needed. They should not wait until a few days before a return-to-office date, vacation, move, or other firm deadline. Enrollment is a thoughtful placement process, not an appointment that can always be inserted immediately into an open calendar. The process includes a phone conversation with management, an evaluation of likely suitability and placement, coordination with Pack Leaders and existing packs, and an in-person screening walk with its own availability constraints. Illness, weather, and other unforeseen events can disrupt even a well-planned timeline. More notice gives Citizen Hound greater ability to create the right placement and gives the family time to make other arrangements if capacity is unavailable or the dog is not suited to the program. Additional and Ad-Hoc Walks are available only when openings appear in the app and are never guaranteed. Outside Hours walks and independently arranged sitting also have limited capacity.
